Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea

Post by WanderingWlf on 16/3/2015, 8:12 am

THIS GAME IS A NEW RELEASE. BE MINDFUL OF SPOILERS.

How many others are playing this? If you're watching a stream of it feel free to leave input here as well!

What do you think of the gameplay so far? I've said this 100 times and I can't say it enough, but 0 time restraints is the best. I FEEL PRETTY GUILTY THOUGH as the last few games is practically based on time management. The way that Shallie plays reminds me of the older Atelier games or Mana Khemia. I'm free to just roam around and do whatever. There's only 2 things that bother me so far.

-I don't understand how gaining Exp. Works!
I'll fight the first type of enemy and gain 500 exp and then fight a way tougher enemy and only get 20 Exp.

-I know I said 2 things bothered me but I can't remember the 2nd thing now...

My favorite character is Shallie, but not because of green hair.

you like her because SPUNKY also brooms

i'd like to play it now but i'd feel really lost because it's the last of three games and i only have the second and third. idk about playing the end of a trilogy without playing Ayesha first and then the only atelier game I have the first one to is Rorobutts.

I think it'd be alright to play this one first. I know Shallie takes place after the others but I don't think you'd be missing out on some sort of links to the games. @Miomeo can probably say more about it. She's beat them all.

Personally, I played Totori+ then Rorona+ (Because Rorona+ wasn't a thing yet. Also, I didn't beat either of these games!). They obviously have a link in story and characters but I didn't feel like I was ruining the series for me.

@WanderingWlf Was the second thing that was bothering you the Emphasize Numbers thing for collecting items?

You kinda get spoiled on a huge part from Totori in the Meruru game even though they don't make a big deal out of it but I still find it odd how they just put the spoilers "out there" like nothing. Meruru was actually pretty good though. Totori was >okay< but it seems you waste the MOST amount of time in that game and it's hard to get the "true ending".

As for the dusk series, there isn't much of a connection between the all three games, although right now Shallie has two returning characters from Ayesha so that might play a huge part but who knows since I haven't gone far in Shallie yet... I know there's a few returning characters from Escha and Logy even though I'm pretty sure their backgrounds won't matter.

Shallie's a new story so you can play it regardless where you're at. Same with Arland.

After Finishing the game yesterday, i found the lack of time management to be a breath of fresh air considering i just finished atelier totori right before starting Shallie and time management in that game is really strict, interesting on how majority of battle experience from shallie comes from the life task system, though i still perfer the combat in Escha & Logy over shallie but its definitely my favorite overall atelier game, looking foward to experimenting with the growth system when a patch is released

Definitely!! Escha and Logy's combat is pretty fun but I haven't gone past Chapter 3 of Shallie to really tell yet.

Also the growth system has been patched up! woooo (even though I was nowhere near level 40 anyways)

Smile

I still need to actually play the three atelier games that I own. Maybe I'll make Mio help me because I'm a horrible person. I'm really interested in Shallie though, I'm just not sure if I should get it for reasons I mentioned in Wolf's chat already.
